Genesis

God always existed. He created everything.
He is so smart and so powerful that He did it by just speaking.

And God said, Light. And there was light. Genesis 1

God created mankind in His image

No higher honor exists in the universe.

His Royal Family

He created mankind to be His eternal royal family to rule with Him forever.

And God said, Let us create mankind in our image, after our likeness, and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth Genesis 1 :26

I have created Him for My glory Isaiah 43:7

You are children of the Most High Psalm 82:6

I will be a Father to you and you will be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty 2 Corinthians 6:18

God formed man from earthdust

The Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul Genesis 2

He put man in paradise

The Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden and put the man there that He had made Genesis 2

God gave the best food

God made every tree grow that was beautiful and was delicious Genesis 2

He warned

Eat from every tree. But from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, do not eat for the day you eat of it, dying, you will die Genesis 2

Not Alone

The Lord said, Not good that man should be alone. I will make for him a helper who fits him

The Lord God formed every animal of the field and bird of the air and brought them to Adam to see what he would called them Genesis 2

From him

And from the side the Lord took from Adam He made a woman and brought her to the him. Adam said, This now, at last is bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh. She shall be called woman for she was taken out of man Genesis 2

His Love Saves

Man betrayed his Maker horribly. He believed the enemy when He said said, You will be like God if you eat from the forbidden tree. (God had already made them like Himself.) This put the whole human race under the sentence of eternal death.

They saw they were naked and sewed fig leaves together to cover their nakedness

God Corrects

The serpent would crawl on his belly through the rest of the ages, a reminder not to listen to him

The woman would be ruled by her husband to protect her

The man would work for their food to remind them of the Source of life and humble their pride
Genesis 3

He promised to die in our place

The Lord God made coats of skins and clothed them. (To make coats of skin an animal had to die, an innocent lamb in place of our guilty great, great grandparents. A horrible betrayal, a horrible price to undo it, the greatest price every paid for anything, ever. The life of the infinitely perfect and precious Son of Almighty God.

Behold the lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world. John 1:29

He protects the way

'...so they not put out their hand and eat from the Tree of Life and live forever (in their fallen condition), the Lord sent them out of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken and set Cherubim and flaming swords whirling around at the entrance to paradise to guard the way of the Tree of Life Genesis 3

He blesses with children

Adam knew his wife Eve and she conceived and bare Cain and said, I have gotten a man from the Lord. She conceived again and bare Abel Genesis 4

He Counsels Personally

When the brothers were grown they brought offerings to the Lord. Cain's offering was excellent produce he had grown. Abel's offering showed he knew he could do nothing worthy and could only trust on the Lord's promised Savior.

The Lord accepted Abel's offering, but not Cain's and Cain was enraged.

The Lord said to him, If you do right won't you be accepted? If not, sin is crouching at the door of your heart. You must rule over it. Genesis 4

He hears the cries of the innocent

When Cain killed his brother the Lord confronted him and said, What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood cries to Me from the ground Genesis 4

He is worthy

You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power for you have created all things. And for your pleasure they exist and were created Revelation 4:11

He is our true source

Our True Source

Of Him and through Him and to Him are all things to whom be glory and honor forever Romans 11:36

He gives years of chances

God saw the wickedness of man was great on the earth. It grieved the depths of His heart.

My Spirit shall not always strive with man erring in his flesh. His days will be 120 years Genesis 6

He waits until the last possible minute to judge

The Lord is not willing that any perish but that all come back to Him. 2 Peter 3:9

The Lord preserves His own

Noah found that God was gracious and loving. Noah  was a just man who walked with God.

The Lord said to Noah, The end of all flesh is before me for the earth is ruined and filled with violence through them. I will destroy them with the earth.

Make an ark...by this design I show you...for I will bring a flood of water and destroy all flesh from under heaven in which is the breath of life. Genesis 6

God Shut the Door

After 120 years of warnings, the ark was loaded with male and female animals of every species, all the necessary food, Noah and his family...'and the Lord shut him in.'

He washes clean

In the six hundredth year of Noah's life the fountains of the great deep rose up and the windows of heaven were opened...and the rain was on the earth forty days and forty nights

and the mountains were covered and waters rose 22 and a half feet above them. All that breathed the breath of life died and every living substance was destroyed from the earth.

And the waters prevailed on the earth 150 days Genesis 7

He Gives New Beginnings

And God spake to Noah, saying, 16 Go out of the ark, you, and your wife, and your sons, and your sons' wives with you. 17 Bring with you every living thing that is with you, of all flesh, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth. Genesis 8

He promises Life

and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again strike any more every thing living, as I have done. 22 While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a sign of a covenant between me and the earth.

14 And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:

15 And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.

16 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. Genesis 9

He protects the sacredness of human life

Whoever sheds man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man. Genesis 9:6

He curses evil to stop it

Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. Genesis 9:25

He makes nations from individuals

These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations, in their nations: and by these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood. Genesis 10:32

He stops wicked plans

And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. 8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth. Genesis 11

He greatly blesses

the LORD had said to Abram, Get out of your country, and from your relatives, and from your father's house, to a land that I will show you.

2 And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great; and you will be a blessing:

3 And I will bless them that bless you, and curse him that curses you: and in you all families of the earth will be blessed. Genesis 12

He gives huge blessings that last forever

Lift up now your eyes, and look from the place where you are northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward: For all the land which you see, to you will I give it, and to your seed for ever.

And I will make your seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then your seed also can be numbered. Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it to you Genesis 13

He gives victory

Five kings quit paying money to these other four kings, so the four kings went to war against the five kings. They rampaged across the earth conquering and stealing. Abraham's nephew, Lot, and his family and property were stolen by the four kings.

When Abraham heard he gave all his workers weapons and marched after the four kings. They attacked and defeated them and their armies at night and brought back all the people and their goods.

A priest came to meet Abraham and they worshiped the Most High God, possessor of heaven and earth,  with bread and wine, thanking Him for the protection and the victory. Abraham gave the priest one tenth of all the riches they recovered, showing that God is the source of all that we have.

He is our shield

The One with all the power in the universe protects us

I am your shield and your exceeding great reward Genesis 15

As the mountains surround Jerusalem so the Lord surrounds His people now and for ever Psalm 125:2

He judges between us

When their unbelief caused them to try doing it their own way, and it began to turn out badly the Lord gave them the solution, turned it into a blessing, and blessed everyone involved with His enormous blessings

The Lord judge between me and you, Sarah said.

The angel of the Lord found Sarah's maid by a fountain in  the wilderness

You will bear a son and call his name Ishmael because the Lord has heard you affliction

I will multiply your seed exceedingly

Here I have looked on Him who sees me Genesis 16

and Kings

for a father of many nations I have made you And I will make you exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come out of you
Genesis 17:6, 7

He protects

God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, you are but a dead man, for the woman you have taken; she is a man's wife.

But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, Lord, will you slay a righteous nation? Did he not say to me, She is my sister? and she, even she herself said, He is my brother:

in the integrity of my heart and innocence of my hands I have done this.

And God said to him in a dream, Yes, I know that you didst this in the integrity of your heart; I also withheld you from sinning against me: therefore I did not allow you to touch her Genesis 20

He withholds

us from sinning against him

I also withheld you from sinning against me: I did not allow you to touch her Genesis 20:6

He heals

 when we pray

Abraham prayed to God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare children.

For the LORD had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abraham's wife.

.

He is Our Covering

Behold, I have given your brother a thousand pieces of silver: behold, he is to you a covering of the eyes, to all that are with you, and with all other: by this she was made righteous Genesis 20:16

For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ Galatians 3:27

The Lord, Our Righteousness Jeremiah 33:16

He keeps impossible promises

the LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did to Sarah as he had spoken.

For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him Genesis 21

He makes us laugh

and everyone to laugh with us

Sarah said, God has made me laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me.

And she said, Who would have said to Abraham, that Sarah would nurse children? for I have born him a son in his old age Genesis 21

He hears

our cries for help and answers with magnificent promises

God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said to her, Hagar, fear not;  God has heard the voice of the lad where he is.

Get up, lift up the lad, and hold him in  hand; for I will make him a great nation

He opens our eyes

to see what He has already provided

And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad drink.

And God was with the lad; and he grew, and dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer Genesis 21

He tests our hearts

to see who we love best

after these things, that God tested Abraham

angel of the LORD called to him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.

And he said, Lay not your hand on the lad, neither do  anything to him: for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son from me Genesis 22

He provides Himself

as the whole solution to our every need

My son, God will provide himself a lamb Genesis 22

I being in the way, the LORD led me to the house of my master's brothers

The Lord Gives Conception

Isaac pleaded with the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and the LORD answered him, and Rebekah his wife conceived Genesis 25:21

He Answers Questions

And the children struggled together within her and she said, Why am I like this?

And she went to ask the LORD

And the LORD said to her, Two nations are in your womb, and two nations will be separated from inside you

And the one people will be stronger than the other

And the older will serve the younger

And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb Genesis 25

He guides and blesses

LORD appeared to Isaac, and said, Do not go down to Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell you

Stay in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you;

for to you, and to your seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I swore to Abraham your father

And I will make your seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give to your offspring all these countries

and in your seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed Genesis 26

he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he has taken away my blessing.

And he said, Have you not reserved a blessing for me? Genesis 27

He that overcomes (by faith) will inherit all things and I will be his God and he will be My son Revelation 21:7

Jacob stayed there all night, because the sun was set

and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep

And he dreamed, and behold a staircase set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven

and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it

And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac

the land where you are resting, I will give it to you and your offspring

And your seed shall be as the dust of the earth

and you shall spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south

and will bring you again to this land; for I will not leave you Genesis 28

He sees our troubles

And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren

And Leah conceived, and bare a son, and she called his name Reuben: for she said, Surely the LORD has looked on my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me

And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Because the LORD has heard that I was hated, he has given me this son also: and she called his name Simeon

And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Now this time will my husband be joined to me, because I have born him three sons: therefore was his name called Levi

And she conceived again, and bare a son: and she said, Now will I praise the LORD: therefore she called his name Judah
Genesis 29

He Remembers

God remembered Rachel

I have learned by experience that the LORD has blessed me for your sake
Genesis 30

He stays with us, guides and protects

And the LORD said to Jacob, Return to the land of your fathers

And I will be with you

And Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to the field, to his flock

And said to them, I see your father's attitude, that it is not toward me as before

But the God of my father has been with me

You know that with all my power I have served your father

And your father has deceived me, and changed my wages ten times

But God did not allow him to hurt me
Genesis 31

Our witness in heaven, The Almighty

Jacob said to Laban, I have been twenty years in your house; I served you fourteen years for your two daughters, and six years for your livestock: and you have changed my wages ten times

Unless the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely you would have sent me away now empty

God has seen my affliction and the labor of my hands, and rebuked you last night

Laban said, It is in the power of my hand to harm you but the God of your father spake to me last night, saying,
do not speak to Jacob either good or bad

If you afflict my daughters, or take other wives beside my daughters, no man is with us; see, God is witness betwixt me and you Genesis 31

He Promises Good

Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him

And when Jacob saw them, he said, This is God's army: and he called the name of that place Mahanaim (two camps)

Jacob's servants said, We came to your brother Esau, and he's coming to meet you, and four hundred men with him.

Then Jacob was greatly afraid

And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, the LORD who said to me, Return to your country, and to your relatives, and I will deal well with you

I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which You have shown me for with my staff I crossed over this Jordan; and now I am become two bands

Deliver me, I beg you, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau: for I fear him, lest he will come and strike me, and the mothers with the children.

You said, I will surely do you good, and make your seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.  Genesis 32

He saves from trouble

And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept

And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, Who are those with you? And he said, The children which God had graciously given me Genesis 33

He helps in trouble

Jacob's daughter, Dinah, went out to see the daughters of the land and a man there raped her. Her brothers tricked the family that did it and killed a whole city of men. Jacob feared retribution. The sons said, Should they treat our sister like a harlot?

And God said to Jacob, Get up, go up to Bethel, and live there

And make there an altar to God who appeared to you when you ran from the face of Esau your brother

Then Jacob said to his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments

And let us arise, and go up to Bethel

I will make an altar to God, who answered me in the day of my trouble, and was with me in the way which I went

And they journeyed, and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob Genesis 33-35

He showed the future in dreams

And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brothers: and they hated him

We were binding sheaves in the field, and my sheaf arose, and stood upright; your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf

And his brethren said to him, Shall you indeed reign over us? Shalt you have dominion over us?

And he dreamed another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars bowed down to me

And he told it to his father, What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall I and your mother and your brothers indeed come to bow down ourselves to you to the earth? Genesis 37

He gives conception

Judah saw a daughter of a certain Canaanite, whose name was Shuah; and he took her, and went in unto her

And she conceived, and bare a son; and he called his name Er

And she conceived again, and bare a son and she called his name Onan

And she again conceived, and bare a son; and called his name Shelah

And Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, whose name was Tamar
Genesis 38

The Lord, your redeemer,

He that formed your from the womb, says, I am the Lord that makes all things

He that stretches forth the heavens alone

That spread abroad the earth by myself Isaiah 44:24

He destroys evil

And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD killed him

And Judah said to Onan, Go in unto your brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to your brother

And Onan knew that the seed would not be his

So when he went in unto his brother's wife, he spilled it on the ground so he would give seed to his brother

And the thing he did displeased the LORD

Therefore he killed him also Genesis 38

He is with and prospers all

And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ishmeelites, which had brought him down there

And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian

And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand.

that the LORD blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of the LORD was on all that he had in the house, and in the field
Genesis 39

He gives and interprets dreams of the future

And they dreamed a dream both of them, each man his dream in one night,  the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were bound in the prison

And Joseph came in to them in the morning, and looked at them, and saw they were sad

And he said to them, Why do you look so sad today?

And they said to him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it

And Joseph said to them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell me the dreams, please

 Genesis 40

He gives answers of peace

And Pharaoh said to Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it: and I have heard that you can understand a dream to interpret it

And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace

I saw in my dream, and, behold, seven ears came up in one stalk, full and good: And, behold, seven ears, withered, thin, and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them: And the thin ears devoured the seven good ears:

And Joseph said to Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh is one: God has shown Pharaoh what He is about to do

The seven good cattle are seven years; and the seven good ears are seven years: the dream is one ...and the seven empty ears blasted with the east wind will be seven years of famine

This is the thing which I have said to Pharaoh: What God is about to do, he showed to Pharaoh

Behold, there come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt:

And there shall rise after them seven years of famine; and all the plenty shall be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine shall consume the land

And the dream was doubled to Pharaoh twice because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass

Genesis 41

He makes discreet and wise

Let Pharaoh appoint officers over the land, and collect the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years

And lay up grain under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities stored for the land against the seven years of famine, which will be in the land so that the land not perish through the famine

And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants

And Pharaoh said to his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?

And Pharaoh said to Joseph, Since God has shown you all this, there is none so discreet and wise as you

Genesis 41

He promotes to great heights

You shall be over my house, and according to your word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than you

And Pharaoh said to Joseph, See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt. And Pharaoh took off his ring, and put it on Joseph's hand, and dressed him in clothes of fine linen, and put a gold chain around his neck

And he made him ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt.
Genesis 41

And the name of the second called he Ephraim: For God has caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction. Genesis 41

God Almighty gives mercy

And their father Israel said to them, If it must be so, do this; take of the best fruits in the land in your vessels, and carry down the man a present, a little balm, and a little honey, spices, and myrrh, nuts, and almonds

And take double money in your hand; and the money that was brought again in the mouth of your sacks, carry it again in your hand; perhaps it was an oversight

Take also your brother, and arise, go again unto the man

And God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may send away your other brother, and Benjamin Genesis 43

He gives treasure

And they came near to the steward of Joseph's house, and they communed with him at the door of the house

And said, O sir, we came indeed down at the first time to buy food

And it came to pass, when we came to the inn, that we opened our sacks, and, behold, every man's money was in the mouth of his sack, our money in full weight: and we have brought it again in our hand

And other money have we brought down in our hands to buy food: we cannot tell who put our money in our sacks

And he said, Peace be to you, fear not: your God, and the God of your father, has given you treasure in your sacks: I had your money Genesis 43

To the one that overcomes I will give to inherit all things. And I will be his God and he will be my son. Revelation 21:7

Now therefore do not be grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that you sold me here: for God sent me before you to preserve life

For these two years the famine has been in the land: and there are still five years with no crops

And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth

and to save your lives by a great deliverance

So now it was not you that sent me here, but God: and He has made me a father to Pharaoh

and lord of all his house

and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt

Hurry and go to my father, and say to him, your son Joseph, God has made me lord of all Egypt: come down to me, do not delay

And you shalt dwell in the land of Goshen

And you shall be near me, you, and your children, and your children's children, and your flocks, and your herds, and all that you have

I will feed you; for there are still five years of famine

so you and your households not come to poverty Genesis 45

And multiply you

And I will make of you a multitude of people

And will give this land to your seed after you for an everlasting possession

Genesis 48

He feeds us and redeems us from all evil

And Jacob blessed Joseph, and said

God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked

The God who fed me all my life long to this day

The Angel who redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads

And let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac

And let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth
